Dr. Robert Woodruff is a board-certified spine surgeon dedicated to helping patients get back to the people and activities they love. Since joining the practice in 2012, he has followed a simple approach: listen carefully, understand each patient’s goals, and recommend the treatment that best fits their needs. While surgery can be life-changing for some patients, Dr. Woodruff believes it should only be considered after appropriate non-surgical treatments have been tried.
Dr. Woodruff earned his degree in Psychology from Carleton College before receiving his medical degree from the University of Minnesota in 2006. He completed his orthopedic surgery training at the University of Louisville and then went on to advanced fellowship training in spine surgery at the Texas Medical Center, one of the largest and most respected medical centers in the world. There, he worked with leaders in the field and gained experience treating complex spine conditions, including spinal deformities, serious injuries, and spine tumors. He also received specialized training at MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Dr. Woodruff is known for his thoughtful and caring approach. He takes the time to help patients understand their condition and feel confident about their treatment options. Having undergone spine surgery himself, he understands the patient experience from both sides of the exam room. He works hard to provide the same guidance, compassion, and care that he would want for his own family. His goal is always to provide the right treatment at the right time, whether that means avoiding surgery or using advanced surgical techniques to help patients regain function and improve their quality of life.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Woodruff enjoys spending time with his family, who are his greatest source of inspiration and motivation. He also enjoys biking, downhill skiing, waterskiing, attending his daughters’ theater performances and dance recitals, and relaxing with his wife and children.
