The Spine Center at Black Hills Orthopedics Welcomes Dr. Joshua Kolz
Part of the region’s most preferred orthopedic practice, The Spine Center at Black Hills Orthopedics has welcomed a new surgeon to their Rapid City office. As of Sept. 1, fellowship-trained spine surgeon Dr. Joshua Kolz is seeing patients at 4141 Fifth St. Patients seeking back, neck and spine care are encouraged to call the practice at 605-341-1414 for an appointment.
After receiving both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in biomedical engineering from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, Dr. Kolz earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. Dr. Kolz then completed his residency training in orthopedic surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He chose to further specialize in orthopedic spinal care and completed spine surgery fellowship training at Emory University in Atlanta.
Dr. Kolz’s goal for all patients is to get them back to their life as quickly as possible. With advanced training, Dr. Kolz combines his patient’s history, physical exams and imaging to help diagnose and treat their spine injury or condition. If advanced treatment is needed, Dr. Kolz works with each patient to design and execute a surgical plan to effectively treat their problem in a way that is as minimally invasive as possible. His areas of expertise include:
- Minimally invasive disc removal and fusion, including anterior approach and microdiscectomy.
- Spinal decompression.
- Spinal fusion for the back, neck and lower spine.
- Spine trauma and fractures.
- Total cervical disc replacement.
"As we grow to better serve the needs of our community, we're excited to announce the newest member of The Spine Center, Dr. Kolz, whose dedication to evidence-based, compassionate spine care aligns seamlessly with our patient-first philosophy,” said Black Hills Orthopedic & Spine Center CEO Kyle Wiese.
