During COVID-19, Black Hills Orthopedic & Spine Center Offers Urgent Care, Telemedicine

Black Hills Orthopedic & Spine Center is offering telemedicine and clinical care for urgent needs to provide essential orthopedic services while helping prevent the spread of COVID-19. The telemedicine solution allows patients to safely visit with one of the practice’s specialty-trained providers remotely using video conferencing technology on a smartphone or tablet. The practice will also offer walk-in, on-site treatment for urgent bone, joint and muscle concerns at their Orthopedic Urgent Care clinics in Rapid City, at 7220 Mount Rushmore Road, and in Gillette, Wyoming, at 2201 S. Douglas Highway, Suite 120. This combined approach will help relieve pressure on emergency departments and hospitals while those entities focus on caring for COVID-19 cases.

“Our highest priority is the health and safety of our patients and staff,” says Dr. Luke Mortimer, board-certified, fellowship-trained sports medicine surgeon at Black Hills Orthopedic & Spine Center. “We are proud to offer our patients a telemedicine appointment for those who want to do a video visit for chronic conditions as well as urgent/acute injuries in lieu of an office visit.”

Black Hills Orthopedic & Spine Center’s specialty-trained experts can provide consultation and care plans for a majority of bone, joint and muscle concerns using telemedicine. This secure, convenient technology complies with federal health privacy laws and offers area residents accurate, specialized care. Remote telemedicine appointments are available for new and existing patients at Black Hills Orthopedic & Spine Center. To use the service, patients will need internet access and a smartphone or tablet with a working video camera and microphone.

Patients can also walk into Black Hills Orthopedic & Spine Center’s Orthopedic Urgent Care clinics during the following hours:

  • Rapid City, located at 7220 Mount Rushmore Road: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Gillette, located at 2201 S. Douglas Highway, Suite 120: Monday through Sunday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

For the Gillette Orthopedic Urgent Care clinic from 8 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m., patients will need to check in at the Black Hills Urgent Care next door.

“During this difficult time with COVID-19, we are continuing to serve the Black Hills region for their bone, joint and muscle needs,” continues Dr. Mortimer. “We are taking all necessary precautions to help protect our patients and staff, but we are open and here to help.”
