Recent News
Black Hills Orthopedic & Spine Center, the region’s most preferred orthopedic practice, has welcomed a new doctor, sports medicine specialist Dr. Nathan Jacobson. The Rapid City native is seeing patients in Rapid City at 7220 Mount Rushmore Road at the same practice where he received treatment as a local college athlete. Patients seeking hip, knee, shoulder and sports injury care are encouraged to call the practice at 605-341-1414 for an appointment.
A former member of the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology men’s basketball team, Dr. Jacobson’s experience as an athlete with a rehabilitated injury led him to pursue orthopedic surgery and sports medicine training. Black Hills Orthopedics & Spine Center is where he received the treatment that kept him in the game. Today, Dr. Jacobson joins that same team as a Mayo Clinic–trained orthopedic surgeon and fellowship-trained sports medicine doctor who specializes in sports-related injuries as well as comprehensive hip, knee and shoulder care. His areas of expertise include:
- Achilles tendon repair.
- ACL reconstruction.
- Complex knee surgery and multi-ligament knee injuries.
- Knee cartilage restoration procedures.
- Meniscus repair.
- Minimally invasive hip procedures.
- Nonsurgical treatments.
- Patellar/quadriceps tendon repair.
- Reverse and anatomic total shoulder replacement.
- Rotator cuff repair.
- Shoulder instability/labral repair.
- Total knee and hip replacement.
“I had the honor of being Dr. Jacobson’s surgeon, and today, I have the privilege of being his colleague,” said board-certified orthopedic surgeon Dr. Lew Papendick of Black Hills Orthopedic & Spine Center. “After seeing him grow and pursue expertise with passion, I could not be more proud to have Dr. Jacobson join our team at Black Hills Orthopedic & Spine Center, serving the community he loves.”
Dr. Jacobson earned his medical degree at the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine in Sioux Falls. After medical school, Dr. Jacobson completed his residency training in orthopedic surgery at the world-renowned Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He then underwent advanced subspecialty training in sports medicine at Twin Cities Orthopedics in Edina, Minnesota, where he provided sports medicine care for the Minnesota Vikings and the Minnesota Twins as well as other area teams.
