Black Hills Orthopedic & Spine Center has recently grown to include 20 specialized doctors with the addition of fellowship-trained joint replacement specialist Dr. Bryan Larson and fellowship-trained orthopedic foot and ankle surgeon Dr. Ryan Putnam. Both providers are available to see patients at the practice’s Rapid City office, located at 7220 Mount Rushmore Road. Patients can schedule an appointment by calling (605) 341-1414.
As a fellowship-trained joint replacement surgeon, Dr. Larson specializes in treating severe joint injuries and conditions. His expertise includes hip and knee replacement and revision surgery as well as injections, bracing and patient education on joint problems. Fellowship-trained orthopedic foot and ankle surgeon Dr. Putnam specializes in the surgical and nonsurgical care of the foot and ankle. This includes a broad range of the latest procedures, such as minimally invasive surgery, reconstruction, bunion and hammertoe treatment and ankle replacement surgery.

Dr. Larson is a graduate of the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine in Vermillion and completed his surgical internship and residency in orthopedic surgery at the
Michigan State University and McLaren Flint in Flint, Michigan. He later underwent additional specialty training in adult joint and reconstruction through a fellowship at the University of Virginia Health System in Charlottesville, Virginia. Dr. Larson is also certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
Dr. Putnam earned his medical degree from the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson in Arizona. He then completed his surgical internship and orthopedics and rehabilitation residency at The University of Vermont Larner College of Medicine in Burlington, Vermont. He is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Putnam is also certified in total ankle replacement and the Lapiplasty® Procedure, a surgical treatment for bunion deformity.
