Fellowship-trained adult foot and ankle reconstruction surgeon Dr. Ryan Putnam joined Black Hills Orthopedic & Spine Center in September 2019. With over ten years of clinical and surgical experience, he specializes in the comprehensive surgical and nonsurgical care of a full range of foot and ankle injuries and conditions. From bunions and plantar fasciitis to complex fractures and ankle arthritis, Dr. Putnam has the expertise to help patients reduce their pain and improve their quality of life.
Dedicated to offering the latest and most advanced evidence-based treatment options, Dr. Putnam is an expert in the Lapiplasty® Procedure for bunion correction. He not only has performed well over 100 Lapiplasty procedures but also trains surgeons around the country in this surgery. Additionally, Dr. Putnam is highly skilled in minimally invasive surgery for plantar fasciitis and Achilles tendonitis, utilizing TenJet technology.
After receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish from The University of Arizona in Tucson, Dr. Putnam earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson. He went on to complete his surgical internship at The University of Vermont Larner College of Medicine in Burlington, Vermont, where he also completed his residency in orthopedics and rehabilitation.
Dr. Putnam later chose to undergo an additional year of advanced training in foot and ankle surgery and reconstruction through a specialty fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. There, he honed his skills in developing personalized, quality care. In his practice, he is devoted to devising a plan of care for each individual patient using a multitude of nonsurgical and surgical treatments to help them regain an active lifestyle.
Dr. Putnam is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, and he was recognized as a Top Doctor in Orthopedic Surgery by Columbia Metropolitan Magazine in 2019. He is also an active member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society.
When he isn’t caring for patients, Dr. Putnam enjoys spending time with his family. He also likes to stay active and frequently participates in outdoor activities, including fly fishing.
